About 40 activists from all over the Midwest came to show support for Peter at his first court appearance in Wisconsin. He pleaded not guilty to all counts and waived his bail hearing for now so his lawyer can be better prepared. His next court date will not be scheduled until Friday, but details will be made available as soon as possible. Peter also wants to say thank you to everyone who came today. Peter Young will be arriving in Madison any day and is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday, May 24th. This is first court appearance in Madison and we are hoping for a big turnout to show Peter that he will have support no matter where in the country he is. A lot has happened in recent weeks with Peter's case. On May 5th, Peter's local charges were settled and he was sentenced to time served. The following day, Peter was taken into federal custody and ordered transferred back to Madison, Wisconsin, to face his federal charges.
Peter was then transferred to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California for two days. Today, he left Dublin and is now en route to Madison. Unfortunately, there is no definite date of when he will arrive in Madison. It could be less than a week and it could be almost one month.
As soon as Peter arrives in Madison, an update will be posted. In the meantime, letters can still be sent to letters@supportpeter.com and supporters can focus on raising much needed funds for a Madison attorney for Peter.
A good attorney is essential for Peter, but we still needs thousands of dollars to make this happen.

All the kinks with the Santa Clara County Jail are finally getting ironed
out and things are moving forward. Peter is receiving lots of mail, some
of his books, and is receiving vegetarian meals on a daily basis. He has
also been able to order commissary and get some extra vegan food, stamps, and other necessities weekly. Peter sends his thanks for all that his supporters have done...none of this would have happened without the
letters and calls!
Peter's next court date is 04.27.05 where it is hoped a resolution to his
local charges will be reached. He then will begin the process of dealing
with his federal charges.
His support team is in the process of finding a local attorney in Madison,
Wisconsin, where his case will ultimately be heard. Hiring a private
attorney will not be cheap and Peter needs all the financial support we

Since your phone calls came pouring into the jail, and with pressure from his attorney, Peter has received a chest X Ray for his TB test, and has been getting 3 vegetarian meals a day, for almost a week! Great job everyone! Peter is deeply appreciative of your support.
Peter is still in solitary, however, because he is currently a maximum security prisoner. He will be reclassified within the next month, meaning he will have a chance then of being moved into general population in the near future.
Peter originally had a court date scheduled for Monday, April 11, but it has been rescheduled to April 13th.
Peter has expressed his appreciation for all the letters he have received; it gives him a nice escape from his cell. He has also started receiving books. Even if you have already written Peter, please write him again. Letters from the outside are an important part of his day! Unfortunately Peter is unable to send out letters at this time, but that will change in the future. If you would like a response, include your mailing address.

We have just talked to Peter and he was happy to report that after a large volume of phone calls came in, he started to receive vegetarian meals (vegan meals are absolutely out of the question, but does offer Peter an upgrade from his "piece of lettuce" each day). However, this has abruptly ended, and now he is back to regular food. He has been in for 9 days and has only received two meals he could eat. To top it off they have denied him access to his lawyer because he refuses to take the TB test (which contains animal products).
PLEASE!! Take a few moments to politely call the jail and express the following:
*Peter needs vegan meals. They have provided him meatless meals before, they can do it again.
*Peter is guranteed the right to be visited by his attorney of record
*Peter can take a chest X-ray (which his father has offered publicly to pay for) instead of taking the TB test

Peter has told us that this means the world to him, and after hearing about the support, he was left "glowing for hours".
Peter Young appeared in court again this afternoon for his arraignment, but it was put over until April 11th so that Peter's recently hired private attorney can get acquainted with the case. Peter had a big smile on his face after seeing both local activists and some family members who Peter hadn't seen in close to a decade in court.
The court appearance ended without much excitement, besides a sloppy agent who gave himself up to activists quite easily while trying to
follow them around San Jose. After being called out and embarassed, he tucked tail and headed back to headquarters.
Peter's support website is up, albeit bare bones, but you can still read updates, find out what he can and cannot receive in jail and
most importantly an address to write him at. Peter loves mail and that's all he has right now to keep him connected to the outside. Take 5 minutes to write him a letter. Peter now has an attorney working on his behalf in an effort to get him a
chest x-ray (in lieu of the standard TB test) and take care of other basic
needs, as well as working on his local charges. But we still need people
calling the jail and politely inquiring about Peter.

And please keep the letters coming in! Peter has received a few letters,
which has been uplifting for him. Other than letters and visits, he's only
allowed to make phone calls for 10 minutes every two days. So every letter

He has an arraignment scheduled for March 29 on his local charges. There
are currently no dates set for his federal charges.
Ultimately, Peter's federal case will be heard in Wisconsin. If anyone has
any leads on good federal attorneys in Wisconsin, please let us know.
Remember, Peter is in solitary confinement right now and needs all the
support we can give. Please take a few minutes out of your day to call the
jail and send him a letter. Remember all letters are read by the
authorities!

Jailed activist Peter Young needs your support NOW!
Peter has been able to make a couple of calls out, and received his first
visitor today BUT he has now been told that he had forfeited "all his
rights" and his phone privileges have been revoked because he refused to
take a non-vegan TB test. As a result he is now being held in high
security isolation - unable to make phone calls or trade for food. Since
being jailed the only thing Peter has been given that he can actually eat
is a small amount of lettuce. Peter desperately needs our help so that he
can remain in touch with his supporters and start getting food he can eat.

Peter Young had a court date this afternoon. Nothing really happened and
it was fairly uneventful. Basically he had a state fugitive hold and it
was dropped and replaced with a federal one. He also had a felony charge
added, but it was not revealed what that was. He hasn't been asigned a
public defender, so he hasn't even been araigned. Someone from the PD's
office was there working on it and he will be assigned a PD at his next
court date. His bail was set at $1,000,000.
Peter's father was at the court date and was very happy to finally see
Peter again after all these years, and is very supportive of Peter and of
the activist community that is coming to his son's support.
Peter was allowed a list of phone numbers to be passed to him to make
calls to. Currently his support team is in the process of working with
Peter and attornies to determine how he wants his case handled. Supporters will also be talking to Peter about how he wants his support campaign
handled.
He is allowed two visits a week (one week day, one weekend). Tomorrow his father will be visiting and Saturday someone from his suppport team will
be visiting him. By then we should have everything squared away and get
this ball rolling.

available by the end of the weekend. A bank account is also being looked
into to accomodate donations to a defense fund.
In the meantime, please write letters of support to Peter. He has been
gone for 8 years and we are sure would love to hear from old friends, new
activists, and supporters.
